Happy Inauguration Day!

Today was a great day, a great moment in history! When 46 years ago, African Americans couldn't vote, when people were beat, put in jail, humiliated and even murdered, today to watch Barack Obama be sworn in as our new president meant so much more than I can express...

Let's see...so, here's how I spent my day:

Inaugural Viewing at work....Freshest Old School Line of the Inauguration:

"Lord, in the memory of all the saints who from their labors rest, and in the joy of a new beginning, we ask you to help us work for that day when black will not be asked to get in back, when brown can stick around ... when yellow will be mellow ... when the red man can get ahead, man; and when white will embrace what is right. That all those who do justice and love mercy say Amen." - Rev. Joseph E. Lowery

"Ha!" - Me

MLK Memorial Celebration featuring my beautiful friend Sandra and my bfb (niece) "KaeKae" Kalea! I worked 2-3 weeks on the 2 photo montages they showed at the event! It was crazy emotional to research images from slavery, Civil War, Jim Crow, Little Rock 9, the Civil Rights Movement to Celebrations in Black history, Hurricane Katrina and ending with Obama...it was a very deep visual journey, but everything turned out perfect in the end! Everyone worked so hard to put the event together. There were 2 Gospel Choirs, an "out of this world' Gospel singer - Joy Jones(yes! her voice made me and Sandra cry - in a good way) a Brass Ensemble, student readers, candlelight march...it was a beautiful night!!

Cafe Tour

January began in such an amazing way! What began as an idea I had during a staff retreat turned into a successful, creative, and inspiring community event! "The Good Foot Arts Collective Cafe Tour" was something that both me and my big brother Milton worked on together to connect with the community and other artists. It was the first time the Good Foot had showcased the Visual Arts side of our mission. We had our opening reception at All City Coffee in Pioneer Square, and worked with 8 other artists to complete the show. That night was such a surprise! So many people showed up! At one point there was a line going outside the door. We had great music playing all night (courtesy of DJ Ohmega Watts :D)...and people just felt comfortable enough to stay, relax and get to know people...which is pretty rare for this location's art openings. The owners of the cafe were surprised that the place was so packed, and it turned out better than I could have hoped. Milton said he saw it as "God giving us a vision" on how great this could be. Yeah :)! The Cafe Tour Jan 09 to April 09, this was just the first show...yayerrr! Still so happy....

Home...

This is my crazy update since I haven't been on my blog since Nov 2008, :p!

December 15th, I flew to Tampa to spend Christmas with my family! I had so much fun, and it was really hard to leave. Our holiday consisted of: Eating, Dancing, Watching Movies (Tia's Film Series), Cleaning up together, Eating some more, Watching TV, Dancing some more, Hugging, and Exercising together...In short, I love my family, and I am very very blessed! Here is a pic of all of us, before we went exercising... :)
